The River

One of the pleasures of living in our small town is the river that runs through it.
We live across the street from the river and are in walking distance of this beautiful falls and park.

There's lots of wildlife that live around and in this park including ducks, geese, and many other birds, turtles (including a huge snapping turtle), snakes and muskrats.

Our favourite though is this Blue Heron.
He's quite the fisherman and we've enjoyed watching him catch and eat fish.

Summer here, like in many other places, has been hot, humid and dry.  These pictures were taken a month ago and both the falls and water level are much lower now.  Thankfully, it rained last night and more is to follow later today.

It's hard to believe it's August with Autumn just around the corner.  I am looking forward to the fall season though as it's my favourite.  We have been busy since we moved last summer which explains my absence here.  I have ideas for posts but finding time to actually write them is another story.
It's all good though and I hope you're enjoying your summer too.

Enjoying Life

Enjoying life is the best way to describe the last few months.  We're still getting used to our new surroundings but it's all been good.  We've enjoyed visiting family and friends, taking drives, worshipping with a wonderful group of people at our new church, celebrating Christmas and snuggling down during this wintry deep freeze.

Driving back roads.
See that little road on the left off the main dirt road?
It's named after my family.  Impressive, right?  LOL!

Purchased some beautiful yarn from a local yarn shop.  Love the colours!

Flowers from hubby for my birthday in December.

Simply decorated Christmas tree...

and new star on top.

The best part of Christmas was my niece visiting for a week
along with her sweet Boxer, Mara.

Mara knows how to relax!

Snuggle time for Mara and me.

It may be cold but the sunlight is beautiful!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and wish you only the very best in 2018.

How have you been enjoying life lately?

Turkey & Wild Rice Soup

Supper's ready!
Love this enamel cast iron pot.

I wanted to share this recipe for Turkey & Wild Rice Soup from Mountain Mama Cooks.  I made it a few weeks ago and it was delicious!  A perfect soup for using leftover turkey and perfect for these cool, rainy Fall days.
